SUMMARY:ALLIANCE Webinar - Kinship 101: Information for Relatives and Suitable Others
DESCRIPTION:The financial\, legal\, and emotional issues of raising a relative’s child can be challenging. Services and support when raising a relative’s child can be a lifesaver.  Kinship caregiving in all of its forms is becoming increasingly common.  Recent WA State child welfare data (Partners for Our Children-1/1/2015)   show that 41 percent of children in out of home care are living with a relative.  Many more children are living with relatives or other close family friends informally\, without the ongoing supervision of the state’s foster care system. \nOften kinship caregivers do not access the benefits which are available to them. This class will address the issues that Kinship Caregivers struggle with most: \n\nFinancial Needs\nLegal Challenges\nNavigating public service systems\nNeeding more social services\nInformation about resources/caregiving\n\nThis 90 minute webinar is designed for licensed and unlicensed caregivers caring for children currently or previously involved in the dependency system.  Caregiver Core Training (CCT) is not a prerequisite. However\, this course is supplemental to CCT for kinship caregivers\, and can be a field experience during CCT. \nRegistration Instructions:\n\n\n\nUnder Select Your Class below\, click on the Classes Available button\nFind the training you wish to attend and click Register Now\nIf you are not already logged in (profile required)\, enter your Username and Password and click Log In\nClick the large blue Register for this class button at the right\nYou are now registered! SUMMARY:ALLIANCE Webinar - Relative/Kinship Caregiving: Supporting the Children in Your Care
DESCRIPTION:ou made the choice to step in and provide care for a child when they needed it. This choice changed the day-to-day rhythms of your life\, and the life of the child or children you are caring for. The changes that come with assuming full time care of a child bring with them a host of feelings and often added stressors. In this course\, we will explore how this experience is impacting you and how to cope and care for yourself through the inevitable ups and downs. Then\, we will shift our focus to understanding the feelings and behaviors the children are experiencing. It is common for them to have conflicting feelings about their parents\, the situation and even you. We will consider how to accept their feelings\, respond to their statements and questions\, and support them as they navigate this. Lastly\, we will review resources and sources of support\, particularly support for children of all ages who are challenged by this transition and need support to not just survive but to thrive. \n\nRegistration Instructions:\n\n\n\nUnder Select Your Class below\, click on the Classes Available button\nFind the training you wish to attend and click Register Now\nIf you are not already logged in (profile required)\, enter your Username and Password and click Log In\nClick the large blue Register for this class button at the right\nYou are now registered! You will receive an email with details about the training\nFor assistance with profiles or passwords\, you may contact our Help Desk by emailing help@acwe.on.spiceworks.com.\n\n\n\n\n\nSpecial Instructions:\n\nThis course is one of two that are focused on supporting kin caregivers to navigate the changes in their family relationships. The other focuses on understanding how your relationship with the child(ren)’s parents have changed\, and learning a communication technique to reduce conflict and increase collaboration in service of supporting the child(ren). We highly encourage you to sign up for the partner course to this one\, “Raising Your Relative: Navigating Change in Family Dynamics (webinar)” — https://allianceforchildwelfare.org/content/raising-your-relative-navigating-change-family-dynamics-webinar — which focuses on understanding how this has changed your relationships with other adults in your family\, and learning a communication technique to reduce conflict and increase collaboration.

SUMMARY:ALLIANCE Webinar - Understanding and Managing Caregiver's Own Emotions
DESCRIPTION:As a caregiver the very best thing you can do for those who depend on you is to take care of yourself! \nCaregivers are expected to welcome children who have been traumatized into their homes and invest emotionally and physically into the children. Caregivers are expected to separate gracefully when the time comes for the children to move on. The caregiver’s responsibilities and personal sacrifices in caring for someone else can be challenging for even the most experienced caregivers. \nThis 6 hour focused topic training for caregivers teaches how to reduce your stress\, find more energy and improve your resilience while you care for difficult children and demanding expectations.  The course includes opportunities for self-reflection and insight\, short term goal setting and practical self-care and stress reduction techniques. \nLuanne Hawley has been a licensed foster parent for 25 years\, as well as a relative care provider and adoptive parent. She has been an advocate for Foster Parents and Care Providers having provided support services through the FIRST (Foster Intervention and Retention Support Team) program for many years. \nREGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS: \n\n\nUnder Select Your Class below\, click on the Classes Available button\nFind the training you wish to attend and click Register Now\nIf you are not already logged in (profile required)\, enter your Username and Password and click Log In\nClick the large blue Register for this class button at the right\nYou are now registered!
