SUMMARY:ALLIANCE - Fostering Children and Youth Through Transition\, Grief and Loss: Helping Children With Their Feelings
DESCRIPTION:Grief for children is the disruption of a bond\, and in any foster situation\, significant bonds have been disrupted or broken. This makes foster children more emotionally vulnerable when other losses occur. A friend may move\, a pet dies\, or a teacher goes on maternity leave. All these events placed the foster child in a very precarious position. This training will help you to understand that a lot more is on their emotional plate then on other children. You will learn how to address and support the child in a time of transition. \nThis training will cover: \n\nThe stages of grief\nA condensed developmental understanding of how children grieve at different ages and understandings.\nHow to communicate with children\nHow transition\, grief and loss might trigger old feelings for the child and caregiver\nDeveloping a plan and skills to support children in times of transition.\n\nCaregivers Register Here

SUMMARY:COORDINATED CARE - Trauma Informed Care: Connections & Healing
DESCRIPTION:Children (like adults) often define themselves through their connections. If they have been moved often\, pulled from those they are connected and attached to\, is any wonder they feel and act fragmented from their lives? This in turn potentially opens the door for further trauma and disconnection. This Trauma Informed training discusses ways for caregivers and professionals to help a child develop connections\, practical tips on communicating about trauma and help the child build a strength based understanding of their personal story.\nSponsored by Fostering Solutions & Coordinated Care\nFacilitated by Zia Freeman\, MA\, LMHC \nRegister in advance for this:\nhttps://centene.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJcpdemrrj4tGtfGZvH_Vm9F9lIn1i6tsMk_\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

SUMMARY:ALLIANCE - Relative/Kinship Caregiving: Supporting the Child in Your Care (webinar)
DESCRIPTION:You made the choice to step in and provide care for a child when they needed it. This choice changed the day-to-day rhythms of your life\, and the life of the child or children you are caring for. The changes that come with assuming full time care of a child bring with them a host of feelings and often added stressors. In this course\, we will explore how this experience is impacting you and how to cope and care for yourself through the inevitable ups and downs. Then\, we will shift our focus to understanding the feelings and behaviors the children are experiencing. It is common for them to have conflicting feelings about their parents\, the situation and even you. We will consider how to accept their feelings\, respond to their statements and questions\, and support them as they navigate this. Lastly\, we will review resources and sources of support\, particularly support for children of all ages who are challenged by this transition and need support to not just survive but to thrive. \nCaregivers Register Here

SUMMARY:ALLIANCE - Why Children Lie: Development\, Trauma\, and Supporting the Truth (webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Lying is a complex\, layered behavior that involves both the person telling the lie and the perception of the person receiving it\, as well as each person’s history and development. Surprised it’s not so black and white? This training will take you through understanding what lying is\, why it happens and how to support the truth. \n“Why Children Lie” addresses lying on several levels. You will look at your own attitude about lying and how your values and beliefs affect that perception. The course will cover what lying looks like in different stages of development and what the motivating factors may be for a child. You will also talk about the societal norms around lying and how to support a child telling the truth. You will learn how to set a child up for being truthful through positive communication\, and how to make changes to your own behavior and responses. \nThe impact of trauma is a big part of this training\, too\, as trauma and other diagnoses impact the ability to be truthful. You will talk about how lying can be a trauma response and what you can do to change the pattern. \nWhen you leave the class\, you will have a deeper understanding of how to respond to children when they lie and how to prevent lying. \nCaregivers Register Here
